5. Shipment Search

Panjiva's Shipment Search returns every shipment recorded in our data set that matches your search term. Shipment Search is especially helpful when searching for opted out records or data that doesn't track back to a specific company profile. You can also use Shipment Search to find records across different trade lanes depending on which data sets are included in your subscription.

To enter Shipment Search directly, select Shipments from the drop down menu next to the search bar. From there, enter your term in the query box. You may use a commodity or product name, company name, or another keyword of your choice.

Shipment Search attempts to match your search term with information from all fields in the corresponding data source's shipment record.

To view a different data source, first select the country in the drop down menu, and then the country's record type (i.e.import records or export records). Panjiva Global Access plans come with all data sources. We're always adding new data sources, so check back regularly to stay up to date on our ever-expanding coverage.

Your search results will appear in a table along with a brief summary of the shipment count, weight (kg), volume (TEU), and more. Note that depending on the data source, certain measurements may not be available. For instance, U.S. imports provides summary statistics on LCL shipment count, whereas China imports provide summary statistics on Value of Goods (USD).

if you want to run an empty search, you can simply leave the query field blank and hit the magnifying glass or press 'Enter' to view all data.

Refine your results even further by using the filters on the left hand navigation.

To change the default columns shown in the results, you can click on the left hand button that tells you how many fields are currently being shown and choose the desired columns available for that data source.

A few things to keep in mind with the Field selector:
  • When exporting the data to Excel or CSV, the columns you see on the screen will appear in the export
  • Your column preferences will be remembered every time you use Shipment Search and when you save your search
Please note that each of our data providers has a specific set of fields/columns that they provide to Panjiva. Therefore, there are several fields that are unique to each data source, but we do our best to make the fields and columns consistent across the data source.

To view the different fields of the various trade data sources, visit the Data Sources and FAQs section of the support center.

Access Shipment Analytics to view a chart or graph of your results. This is located to the right of the Shipment Reports title and allows you to view a histogram of the shipments that match your search. Trends give you the ability to view the results across a number of different dimensions.

You can also use Shipment Analytics to view a map that shows the number of imports and exports. This is located below the Shipments Report at the top of the page.
