Q3'21 US Solar and Wind Power by the Numbers

Powered by

U.S. developers connected 2,369 MW of new solar capacity to the grids in Q3'21. No state saw more new solar generation than Texas, which added 884 MW, roughly 37% of the total additions in the quarter. U.S. now has 55,501 MW of solar power capacity, excluding distributed generation.

Following a similar story in the wind market, Texas dominated the rest of the country with a 55% share of the 2,167 MW capacity additions in Q3'21. 8,594 MW of wind capacity has been connected to U.S. grids in the first three quarters of 2021. This was more than the 6,481 MW capacity added in the same period of 2020. Looking ahead, the U.S. has a wind power capacity pipeline of 61.7 GW through 2025.
