The PJM Interconnection could see a net 11,615 MW of capacity added during 2018, with 3,499 MW of fossil fuel-fired retirements being offset by 15,114 MW of planned additions. Gas combined-cycle plants lead additions, with 11,541 MW scheduled to come online in 2018. Additions of renewable energy resources total 2,531 MW, including 1,405 MW of wind and 1,050 MW of solar scheduled to begin operating by the end of the year.
All the plants slated to come offline in 2018 are fossil fuel fired, led by coal-fired steam turbines at 2,751 MW. Gas-fired retirements total 716 MW, and 33 MW of oil capacity will also come offline.
