Overview: The S&P Cap IQ Pro Office Tools will allow a user to dynamically link an excel worksheet, containing formulas, with a PowerPoint or Word document with a few clicks of the mouse (Please see the “Excel Basics” quick guide for download instructions). This will add an S&P Cap IQ Pro Office tab to both the user’s PowerPoint and Word applications. If something within the Excel workbook is modified and refreshed – given that same table or set of functions is linked through Office Tools – the user can enter PowerPoint or Word, select the table, chart, or graph, click into the S&P Cap IQ Pro Office tab at the top, and refresh it to reflect the changes.
Outline of Features and Content: The Office Tools are going to live in the “Link to PPT/Word” section of the Excel Add-in. In order to link a table, chart, or graph, a user should click or highlight the content, and then select “Copy with Link”
After doing so, the user should enter PowerPoint or Word, select the S&P Cap IQ Pro Office Tab at the top, and select the arrow attached to “Paste with Link.” Selecting this arrow will display all the options available. Choose the desired option, and the table, chart, or graph should appear in you slide deck or document.
As seen from the picture above, once content is linked via Office Tools, it can then be updated simultaneously with the Excel spreadsheet to which it is linked. In order to do so, a user would update the table, chart, or graph in Excel, then select it in the user’s slide deck or document, and click the “Update Links” button (shown above, to the right of the “Paste with Link” button).
Example: Linking an SPGTable from Excel to PowerPoint
- Highlight the table within Excel
- Select “Copy With Link”
- Navigate to PowerPoint
- Select the S&P Cap IQ Pro Office Tab
- Select Paste with Link
- The user’s data should appear within the slide
- Note: To update this data after it has been changed within Excel, the user would simply need to navigate to PowerPoint > select the content > click Update Links
