Screening: Assets

Overview

The asset section of the screener allows you to search for the assets a company holds. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Bank branches
  • Coal mines
  • Power plants
  • Television Networks
  • Metals and mining properties
Accessing Asset Screening

In order to get to the asset screener, click on the Apps tab in the top left corner of the S&P Cap IQ Pro navigation bar. Select Screener, at the bottom of the far-left column.

Once there, you’ll see many different screening options. In the Asset Data section, there will be up to 15 different asset types you can screen for.

Example- Branches (U.S.)

Here is an example asset screen you can run for bank branches in the United States. There are many pre-built criteria that can be added. In this case, the ticker has been set to “BAC.” The selected state is Virginia and “Richmond” was typed into the city section. You can also choose different types of branches, ownership, and branch status.

You can also click on the “Add Search Criteria” bar at the bottom of the criteria section, and add any additional criteria from the field selector.

Additionally, this is the same field selector that you will see when you click “Display Columns,” which can be added as report fields in your screen instead of as criteria.

Example- Power Plants

The power plants asset screener is setting up similarly to the bank branches screener. There will be pre-built criteria sections, and more can be added in the “Add Search Criteria” search bar.

Here, you can select various operating statuses, geographies, and technology types. All criteria in the above picture are the default settings, aside from “Dominion” in the Owner/Operator field. The results of this screen would pull all 147 power plants Dominion Electric owns in the United States. You can also select additional fields to add as display columns for more information on these power plants.

Additional Features

There are various options for saving and exporting screens within the screening tool. You have the option of saving the screening criteria, saving the report fields, saving both, or just saving the results as a static list. All screens can also be exported as table or single cell formulas to be manipulated within excel, static values, as a list, to PDF, and in the case of asset screening, to our mapping tool for a visual representation of the data.
